25 Jul

I just got back to work after a pretty manic week’s holiday.

This is a fitting anthem for a first Monday morning back, I think:

I’ve been slightly sceptical about new Belle and Sebastian, having grown up on the pure stuff, but I do like the cheery sixties feel about their latest album Write about Love – when it manages to avoid being twee, at least.

Anybody buy the new album and have any thoughts to share?

I only listened to this album for the first time last week. I didn’t like it as much… and I don’t know why.
But how can you not love this?!
(maybe it’s because I discovered B&S in the wrong order 😉

It feels to me a bit like the new album is trying too hard – trying to recapture something that came effortlessly first time round. Still, it’s hard to keep the freshness after that many years.

But Dear Catastrophe Waitress was the first B&S album I ever bought and I do have a lot of love for it. Good call!
